Sparks Fly, site-specific video installation, 10'x8'x5'

Sparks Fly reveals itself as the viewer approaches in a subtle play of perspective and moving pictures. A panoramic structure is intersected by a video projection and absorbed in the purple hues of an alcove. The video is composed of two parts: periodically appearing footage of a sparkler burning from start to finish and a continuous animation of the most brilliant stills from that footage. The projection is caught at an angle, spread along an expanse of stretched fabric anchored by one end of an open wooden frame. The animated sequence is projected through an image of a racing motorcycle located on the farthest reach of the curving frame. Frozen passage, finite experience, and sustained intensity converge in this allegory of a journey in progress.
